The DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program was active at the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ANA) and South Carolina ANA joint annual meeting,

group shot outsideThe DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program was active at the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ANA) and South Carolina ANA joint annual meeting, held in Asheville from September 10 to 12.  
  
Podium presentations from the Class of 2022 included:  

  • Kristen Southwick and Allison Foust: "The Use of Screen-Based Simulation (SBS) as an Educational Tool for Recertification for Reentry to Practice for Nurse Anesthetists"  
  • Abby Stewart: “Data Transparency in Anesthesia”  
  • Sam Dowd: “Education and training for registered nurses completing preoperative anesthesia interviews: A quality improvement project”  
  • Carey Williams: “Implementation of a standardized surgical blood order schedule (SSBOS) to decrease red blood cell (RBC) unit outdating and wastage”  
  • Amanda Lund: “Simulation-Based Teaching to Improve Perioperative Care of Transgender Patients” 

Additional recognitions included:  

  • Denise Tola, assistant professor, for completion of the Leadership Academy, as a joint program between the NCANA and the North Carolina Nurses Association  
  • Chris Simmons, DNP-NA program director, for induction into the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, which includes national recognition as one of the most accomplished leaders in the profession of nurse anesthesiology 
  • Emily Funk, assistant professor, who served as the Annual Meeting program co-chair
