NP Residency Programs Advisory Board Meets

The advisory board for the Durham VA Medical Center (DVAMC)/Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) Residency Programs met on Monday, September 11, to discuss projects, accreditation and future plans. Members of the VA Residency Steering Committee reported on progress and opportunities for the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Residency and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Residency Programs. The overall goals of this DVAMC-DUSON academic practice partnership are to:

  • Recruit and retain well trained and experienced adult-gerontology primary care and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners within the VA healthcare system.
  • Increase clinical placement and interprofessional education opportunities.
  • Integrate veteran-centric content into the MSN curriculum.
  • Enhance primary care and mental health care services to Veterans.
