Duke University School of Nursing Re-Designated as 2024 NLN Center of Excellence
The School of Nursing has been re-designated as a 2024 NLN Center of Excellence, recognizing its outstanding contributions to nursing education.

Duke University School of Nursing has been re-designated as a 2024 National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence (COE)—making Duke University/Duke Health once again the only institution to have received all four current designations. This year, the School of Nursing received recognition in the category of “Creating environments that enhance student learning and professional development”. The School of Nursing joined other nursing education programs, leading teaching hospitals, and clinical sites in being honored at the 2024 NLN Education Summit Honors Convocation in September.
During the event, Dr. Anne Derouin, Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, was one of 27 distinguished nurse educators inducted into the 18th class of fellows for the NLN Academy of Nursing Education.
Dr. Ernest J. Grant, Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging received the 2024 NLN President’s Award. This high honor is reserved for outstanding leaders in nursing education with a lifetime career of achievements.
The School is also recognized for “Creating environments that advance the science of nursing education” and “Creating environments that promotes the pedagogical expertise of faculty,” while the Duke Health System has been recognized as “Creating workplace environments that promote the academic progression of nurses.”
Dedicated to excellence in nursing education, the NLN is the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. Information about the COE program and application process can be found at NLN.org.
