What is LEAHP?

The Leading to Equitable Access to Health Professions (LEAHP) program is a key initiative of the Duke University School of Nursing's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Aligned with our mission to advance health equity and social justice, LEAHP provides mentorship to enhance nursing students' readiness for successful entry into advanced practice nursing programs. This program addresses barriers to admission and success for underrepresented students through mentorship by Advanced Practice Nurse faculty and students. Participants will engage in a weeklong immersion experience at Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON), where they will be exposed to various advanced practice nursing roles, improve their understanding of admission criteria, increase self-confidence, create support systems, and identify resources for affording health professions education. Some activities include :

  • Seminars on health disparities and access
  • Personal and professional development
  • Simulated Nurse Practitioner experiences
  • Community-based shadow experiences
