Special Services for Graduate Students
We are proud of our long-standing commitment to military students and pledge continuing support for their unique and specialized needs. Duke University School of Nursing military students experience one of the best nursing educations in the nation, within the world-class Duke University Medical Center.
All military students receive the special attention they deserve through our Military Program:
- Duke offers special sequencing of course offerings to allow military students to complete their studies, in most cases, within the time allotted by their branch of the armed forces.
- Duke offers some courses in an online format while still meeting the military requirements for most courses to be offered in a traditional on-campus environment.
- Duke coordinates required clinical experiences so that, if desired by the student, practice can usually take place in a military treatment facility (MTF).
- The School of Nursing employs faculty who represent each branch of the armed services to assist with military academic evaluations.
Tuition Assistance for Active-Duty Military Enrolling in a Graduate Nursing Program
The Duke University School of Nursing supports active duty military students with tuition expenses through a special scholarship program. Active duty Army, Navy, and Air Force students who have been admitted to an MSN or DNP program and meet the eligibility criteria are automatically considered for DUSON’s military scholarship; ABSN and Certificate students are not eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarships range from $40,000 to $56,000 total toward required tuition and fees. Scholarship award notifications are sent through the Admissions portal shortly after acceptance.
Veterans who are eligible for 100% of Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits are not eligible for the active duty scholarship but are eligible for Yellow Ribbon funding. See the Assistance for Veterans section below for more information about using your Veterans benefits and applying for Yellow Ribbon.
Assistance for Veterans
For eligible veterans and their dependents, Duke University School of Nursing is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program of the Post 9/11 GI Bill® , which the federal government adopted in 2008. Scholarships are provided annually for a select number of students in the ABSN, MSN, and DNP programs as part of the Yellow Ribbon initiative.
Additional information on veterans education benefits is available online through the Office of the University Registrar.
