Founded in 1949, the Golden Age Society focused on social gatherings as they coordinated neighborhood social clubs for Durham’s elderly residents. Today, the DCSL offers various services aimed at advancing the well-being of adults 55 and older living in Durham and is located in downtown Durham with two satellite locations, one in the JFK Memorial Towers in Durham and the other in the Little River Community Complex in Bahama, NC.

The DUSON website is one of our most powerful communication vehicles. In 2020, more than 1.6 million people visited the DUSON website, and nearly 50 percent did so on a mobile device or tablet.
DUSON’s presence on the internet is necessary to our mission. Nearly all requests for a web presence from faculty, staff and students can be accommodated within the main website and follow University, Health System and School brand standards and web architecture.
DUSON was featured in the "A Brief History of the Duke University School of Nursing" article by Phoebe Politt for the Winter 2021 edition of the Tar Heel Nurse. The publication is produced by the North Carolina Nurses Association, of which Politt is a member and Nursing History Council co-chair.
