APSI Summer Book Club 2026: To Save and to Destroy

APSI's summer book club is back by popular demand. This year, the books have been chosen to set the stage for APSI's annual keynote talk (November 2026) which will feature author and professor Viet Thanh Nguyen.

Professor Eileen Cheng-yin Chow (Duke) concludes our two-book sequence with Nguyen's newest book, To Save and to Destroy, which was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism.

The discussion will take place online, so members of the community near and far are welcome to join.

Jewish Life at Duke Class of 2030 Open House & Shabbat Dinner Reception

Transforming Cancer Recovery with an App

For Sophia K. Smith, PhD, MSW, FAOSW, personal experience and challenges have helped build the foundation of her work.

“In addition to being a social scientist, I’m also a 51-year cancer survivor,” said Dr. Smith, Associate Professor at Duke University School of Nursing. “I experienced Hodgkin’s lymphoma as a teenager, and then many years later… I developed breast cancer as a late effect from the radiation therapy.”

Nephrology Grand Rounds

Nephrology Grand Rounds are the primary teaching conference of the Division of
Nephrology. Both clinical and basic science topics pertinent to nephrology are
presented at this conference. Each fellow, guided by a faculty-mentor, will
present once a year. Speakers from outside the Division of Nephrology and Duke
University will also be incorporated into the conference schedule.

Honoring Faculty and Staff With Two Decades of Service at Inaugural Vicennial Celebration

At the inaugural Vicennial Celebration, Dean Michael V. Relf, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN led the acknowledgement of Duke University School of Nursing faculty and staff who have devoted 20 or more years of service to the School. The combined 409 years of service by these 17 individuals, Dean Relf said, have helped shape Duke into one of the top nursing schools in the world.
