The Basics – What’s Changing?

Michelle Webb, assistant professor, was a panelist on a national town hall sponsored by the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care. The presentation was titled "Conversations with Coalition Leaders: Acknowledging and Adapting to the New Reality - Impact on the Interdisciplinary Team" and occurred September 21.

Designed to help prepare the next generation of academic nursing leaders, the Foundation for Academic Nursing is pleased to announce the creation of the Deborah E. Trautman Future Nurse Leader Scholarship.

The Duke University School of Nursing offers a new outlet for students needing support regarding their emotional health and wellbeing – the Student Success Center.

The new center is open to any student needing assistance with stress management, resiliency, interpersonal challenges, mental health and wellbeing, and other types of stress that may be impacting their academic performance.

MSN students convened in person and through Zoom last week for the MSN Program's Fall 2020 On Campus Intensives (OCIs). The week's activities began September 20 and ended on September 27. 

Kudos to Devon Noonan, associate professor, and her entire team for the submission of their NIH R21/R34 application entitled: “Evaluating the Feasibility and Efficacy of using WhatsApp Messaging and Online Social Support for Oral Tobacco Cessation in India." This proposal requests funding for a five-year period with a start date of July 1, 2021.

Seed Global Health has opened recruitment for their next cohort of educators. The program places physicians, nurses, and midwives as visiting faculty at partner institutions in Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, and Sierra Leone for a minimum of one academic year, where they teach and work alongside local faculty.

Professor Emerita Terry Valiga, who retired from DUSON in August 2017, is the 2020 recipient of the prestigious R. Louise McManus Medal, an award given in recognition of long-standing contributions of a distinguished nature to the nursing profession.
