DUSON Need-based Scholarship

Our DUSON Need-based Scholarship provides newly admitted ABSN students beginning the program in Spring 2023 who demonstrate the greatest financial need with a grant toward tuition. Scholarship awards range from $10,000 - $60,000 in total over four semesters of the program. Current students are not eligible to apply for need-based scholarships.

Deadlines:
  • FAFSA - June 1, 2022
  • CSS Profile - June 1, 2022
  • IDOC/Tax Documents: June 8, 2022
Important details:
  • Students MUST apply for scholarship prior to being admitted into the program.
  • Deadlines are FINAL and late applications will not be reviewed.
  • Errors in application submission (i.e. incorrect grade level or school code) may delay when we receive your application and tax documents, which may result in your application not being reviewed.
  • Parent information is required if you were born on or after January 1, 1987. This requirement ensures our neediest students receive scholarship assistance.
  • Applying for the need-based scholarship is voluntary.
Instructions:

Students born on or after January 1, 1987

  • Complete the 2022-23 CSS Profile with your/your spouse’s information AND both parents’ information by June 1, 2022:
    • School Code: 2185 Duke U. School of Nursing
    • Student’s 2022-23 Year in School: 5th year undergraduate
    • Is the student transferring to this school: Select NO
    • $25 fee to submit the CSS Profile, fee waivers are automatically provided by College Board based on their criteria
  • Upload the tax documents to College Board's IDOC Service by June 8, 2022:
    • 2020 student (and spouse, if applicable) federal tax returns with all schedules and W-2s
    • 2020 parent federal tax returns with all schedules and W-2s for both parents
    • College Board emails IDOC information 24 hours after the Profile is submitted.

Students born before January 1, 1987:

  • Complete the 2022-23 CSS Profile with your/your spouse’s information by June 1, 2022:
    • School Code: 2185 Duke U. School of Nursing
    • Student’s 2022-23 Year in School: 5th year undergraduate
    • Is the student transferring to this school: Select NO
    • $25 fee to submit the CSS Profile, fee waivers are provided by College Board based on their criteria
  • Upload the required tax documents to College Board's IDOC Service by June 8, 2022:
    • 2020 student (and spouse, if applicable) federal tax returns with all schedules and W-2s
Additional Documentation May Be Required

Business Tax Returns

Business tax returns are required if you, your parents or your spouse are business owner(s). Submit the following documentation to the College Board's IDOC Service:

  • All applicable business tax returns (1120, 1120S, 1065)
  • All applicable schedules (Schedule C, SE, Schedule E, etc.)
  • All K-1s and additional statements for the business
  • Until all business tax information has been received, your financial aid application is considered incomplete

Applicants with No Contact with a Biological Parent

Applicants with no contact with a biological parent who are unable to submit a parent tax return must follow these steps:

  • Complete a Noncustodial Parent Waiver (NCP) form found on the College Board website
  • Upload NCP form and a third party letter confirming you have no contact with your parent to the IDOC Service of College Board (third-party letter may not be from a family member, but can from a therapist, school counselor, pastor, etc.)
  • Email SON_finaid@dm.duke.edu to let us know your documents are ready for review at the IDOC Service
  • We will review your documentation and email you within 3-5 business days with a decision of whether the noncustodial parent's financial information will be waived or not
